Do you Want to Learn How to Backup Wii Games and Never Have to Buy a New Game Again?

All Without Having to Use a Mod Chip or Even Open Your Wii at All…..

If you do, keep reading…

Usually when someone wants to figure out how to backup Wii games, or any video game really, they assume that they will need to install a mod chip in order to make it work. I want to start off by saying that the method I’m about to show you has nothing to do with a mod chip at all. In fact, you won’t have to do anything that requires you to even open up your Wii console. This means no voided warranty, and no potential chance of breaking something inside the Wii.

The Method I’m Talking About is Wii Homebrew…

Now you’re probably already familiar with what Wii Homebrew is if you own a Wii. But just in case you’re not, Homebrew allows you to backup your Wii games right onto the Wii itself and it also gives you a ton of other really cool features. That is another reason why I really like this method over a mod chip. A chip definitely doesn’t give you all the extra features that Wii Homebrew does.

Now that you know what Homebrew does and how you can backup Wii games with it, you need to know how to install it

There are really two ways that you can install Homebrew. You can either use the Twilight Hack, or you can just download the required files and software online and upload them into your Wii.

I personally recommend just downloading the files yourself as opposed to using the Twilight Hack for a few reasons:

1. The Twilight Hack doesn’t work for all Wii menu versions. Since Nintendo found out that people were doing this, they patched the Wii and anyone who upgraded to the newer version was no longer able to do the Twilight Hack or have the Homebrew Channel. This also means if you have a newer Wii, you probably won’t be able to do it either.

2. You would have to go out and buy the game or find someone else who has it. Unless you already have a copy of Zelda: Twilight Princess, you’re going to be spending money on a game you might not ever play. Or, you need to ask around and find someone who has it already and this might take a while.

3. Simply downloading the files online is much easier. You don’t have to mess around with forcing Zelda to crash, finding someone else with the game, or buying it yourself. You just download the files, save them to an SD card, and upload them into your Wii. Once that’s done, you have an unlocked Wii and you’re ready to backup Wii games along with many other awesome features.

Quick warning about some of the sites with the files to unlock your Wii…

You need to be careful with where you download your Wii unlocking files. There are people out there who for some reason like to give other people viruses or corrupted files that will break their Wii or harm their computer. I know it’s messed up, but that’s the reality. That is why you really need to use a reputable source when you download the files to install the Homebrew Channel.

How can you tell who is reputable?

For one, you should definitely avoid getting the files from one of those free file-sharing sites. This includes sites like Rapid Share, Media Fire, Z Share, etc. These sites are made for people to upload almost anything they want for others to download for free. There is absolutely no way for you to know if the files are safe or not until after you’ve already downloaded and installed them. By this point, it could be too late.

Another thing to watch out for is the random guys in forums giving you a link to their files. Unless you’re a regular visitor to the forum and you know the person and totally trust them, you shouldn’t just take their word for it.

So where do I recommend you get your files to unlock Wii and learn how to backup Wii games?

The site that I personally used and I always recommend to other people is called MyHomebreware.com. They are safe, easy to use, and even provide you with videos and an instruction manual to help you through the whole process. You will get all the necessary files for any menu version too. This includes 3.4 all the way to 4.2. Keep reading to see all of the features of MyHomebreware and exactly why I recommend them so highly.

Game Copying Software vs Wii Homebrew for Backing Up Wii Games

February 25th, 2010 James No comments

Once you’ve decided that you’re going to use software to backup your Wii games as opposed to taking the hardware modification route, you have two choices. You can either use a game copying software, or you can install the Wii Homebrew Channel. I will cover each of them below.

Game Copying Software: This is basically just a program that makes copies of your games for you and allows you to play them in your console without having to modify the console in any way. It works by cracking through the protection codes that come on game discs so that when you load it up in your system, the Wii won’t even recognize the disc as being copied. It will read the game and play it just like it would if you bought the game from the store.

Pros:

  • Affordable – You can find a good game copying program for under $30.
  • Very easy to do – If you’ve ever burned a CD or any other disc before, it’s done the same way.

Cons:

  • Only copies games – If you choose to go with Homebrew, you will not only be able to copy games with your Wii, but you will have access to tons of other features on your Wii as well. With a game copying program though, all you will be able to do is make copies of games. You won’t have access to the extra features like Homebrew has so your system will be very limited.

Wii Homebrew Channel: This is my preferred method for backing up Wii games. It’s just as easy to use as the game copying programs, but you get so many added benefits when you install Homebrew onto your Wii. Some of these include playing emulators, DVDs, other Homebrew apps, and much more. Nintendo Wii users are developing tons of new Homebrew games and applications all the time and you will be able to download all of them once Homebrew is installed.

Pros:

  • Affordable – You can find the correct files online for free, but if you’re not sure exactly how to install Homebrew, you can get a professional guide that will walk you through the whole process for under $30. The best guides will come with written instructions and videos so that you can watch and follow along making it really easy. They will also come with all the files you need so you know they are safe and won’t give you any viruses. The same cannot always be said for the random files you find online.
  • Tons of features – As I mentioned above, with Wii Homebrew you get a bunch of extra features on top of being able to backup your games. These extras make it well worth it.
  • Easy to setup – With the proper files and instructions, Homebrew is really easy to install and setup. You can have it done in about 10 minutes.

Cons:

  • If you don’t know what you’re doing, Homebrew can be tricky to install at first. That is why I recommend using one of the professional guides that are available online. They give you all the files you need and instructions that help you each step of the way.

So as you can see, choosing to go with the Homebrew Channel offers you way more features than using a simple game copying software. Both of them work just as effective for backing up Wii games, but if you really want to unlock the full power of your Wii, the Homebrew Channel is what you want to go with. If you don’t care about all the extra features and only want to backup games, then the game copying software is all you really need.
